When talking about VoIP, one must not think that there is only one standard way of placing a call. Infact, there are three ways in which VoIP is being used by users around the world. Lets figure out, how does VoIP works. We will explain here different flavors of VoIP.

• ATA: An analog telephone adaptor or ATA is an analog-to-digital converter and is used for VoIP calling. It basically allows the user to use VoIP by connecting a standard phone to the internet connection or to the computer itself. It works on a simple priciple that is taking the analog signals from the phone and converting it into digital data so that it can be transmitted over the internet. Start by extracting the actual ATA out of the box, plug in the cable that is present on your phone, which would otherwise go into the wall socket, in the ATA, and you;re well on your way to experience the pleasures of VoIP calling. It's a very simple setup and you should have little to no problem getting on with it. 

 

• IP Phones: These phones are not your usual phones. Although IP Phones may look like the standard phone with their cradle, handset and buttons but in reality they are specialized devices that aid in VoIP calling. They have an RJ-45 Ethereal connector instead of the usual RJ-11 phone connector which is what sets them apart from other phones. IP Phones have the ability to connect to your router directly and have all the required hardware and software to support IP calls. VoIP calls can also be made with Wi-Fi phones from any Wi-Fi hot spot.

 

• Computer-to-Computer: This method is by far the easiest way to make use of VoIP. Forget about paying hefty amounts of money for long-distance calls. A microphone, speakers, the correct software, a sound card and of course an internet connection is all you will need to get started. All in all, computer-to-computer calling is going to be free although you will have to pay a monthly ISP fee.

Q : Why upgrade to the latest firmware needed ?
A : Because the latest firmware can solve a lot of bugs such as slow messaging, slow opening gallery, RAM issue, etc

Q : I have Nokia phone that still in warranty why must i follow your tutorial while i can upgrade in Nokia Center ?
A : You're right. You don't need this one. Please go to Nokia Center to upgrade your firmware free of charge.

Q : Why offline ? You can use online update with Nokia Software Updater (NSU).
A : Thats because i have a bad internet connection.
If download offline firmware from rapidshare failed i just re-download again and again,
BUT if download online update through NSU failed then your phone DEAD.

Q : I have N70 or N73 or another N-series. I want to upgrade to Music Edition or Internet Edition with the latest firmware. Is that possible ?
A : Yes. This is what i have done. Just follow this article.

Q : I pay a visit to blue-nokia(dot)com and my phone is not listed. Do i need to upgrade ?
A : You're using old-fashion mobile phone (no offence ). Then you can read the rest of this article but you won't need upgrade your phone.

Q : If flashing failed and my phone dead what should i do ?

Tools and Requirment :

1. Modern PC spec with XP installed
2. Nokia USB cable
3. Phoenix 2008 or later http://adf.ly/2kM77 (143 MB)
4. Offline firmware for your Nokia type. Size vary 40 - 100 MB.
*. Check your current firmware by pressing *#0000# in your mobile phone. Write down in notepad
*. Visit http://adf.ly/2kM8I.
*. Choose your Nokia type.
*. Choose your latest firmware with region on your country.
As you can see in image my N73 has 2 latest firmware 4.0839.42.2.1 v11 (Music Edition) APAC and EMEA.
APAC stand for Asia and Pasific.
EMEA stand for Europe Middle East and Africa.
I live in Indonesia so i choose APAC version.



Preparation :

1. In your PC :
*. Create restore point through Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Name it 'Before flashing' click create.
*. Remove Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Software Updater, Nokia Care Suite, Nokia Modem Drivers, Nokia Connectivity Drivers through Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, but DO NOT REMOVE PC Connectivity Solution and Windows - Nokia Modem.



*. Restart your PC.
*. Do not connect your phone before installing Phoenix software.
*. Disable all antivirus, firewall, antispyware, antimalware etc.
*. Disable screen saver.
*. Check C:\Program files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\ If you have those folder in there delete all.

2. In your mobile phone :
*. Backup all your mobile phone content since all your data will be lost after flashing.
*. If you protect your memory card with password, then remove it.
*. Remove your memory card from your mobile phone.
*. Go to Tools -> Settings -> Security -> Phone and SIM.
Set Pin code request to Off.
Set Autolock period to None.
Set Lock code to default password which is 12345.
Set Lock if SIM changed to No.
*. Uninstall your mobile antivirus.
*. Charge your phone battery to at least 70% and keep charging. Although flashing takes only 7-10 minutes.


Begin Flashing :

1. Installing Phoenix Service Software 2008 or later :
*. First Extract the archive you have downloaded which contains Phoenix Service Software 2008 or later
*. Install the software. Be patient, it may take some minutes to install all the components.
*. Don’t run Phoenix software now.
*. Connect your Nokia handset to your pc with USB cable in PC Suite mode.
*. windows will start installing the connectivity drivers as soon as you connect the phone. Let it install completely.
If this process failed then you must be remove PC Connectivity Solution. But don't worry we created restore point earlier remember. Restore your system and start remove Nokia component again but do not remove PC Connectivity Solution.

2. Installing Firmware Files From The Offline Package You Downloaded :
*. If your firmware file is in .rar format, first extract it using WinRar on desktop.
*. On desktop you will find .exe file of your firmware file.
*. Install the exe file. Do not change its path. It will install it to default location of C:\Program files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\
*. If you have downloaded a firmware File which Doesn't have an autosetup, then just copy your Extracted folder Manually in the directory C:\Program files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\
*. Be sure you install updated firmware. You cannot downgrade your phone’s firmware in BB5 phones which includes all new Nokia phones including N-Series.
*. Phoenix allows downgrading but your phone doesn’t allow it as your phone has some special security built into it. So no use of trying it. You’ll get an error message.

3. Flashing Procedure (Updating to latest firmware version) :
*. Open Phoenix Service Software.



*. Connect your phone in PC Suite Mode.
*. In Phoenix, click File -> Manage Connections.
*. Now click New.
*. Now select the type of cable you are using. If you are using DKE-2, CA-53 [N-Series] cable, select USB.
*. Click Next. It will find your product and say FOUND. If it doesn’t find any, you can try changing your cable type by clicking Back.
*. Click Next and then Finish.
*. Now your cable type (USB) appears in the connection list. Select it. Click APPLY and then CLOSE.
*. Now select File -> Open Product.
*. A list of RM code will open. Select your phone’s RM code. Like RM-133 for Nokia N73 or RM-84 for Nokia N70 and other nokias with there corresponding Rm Types but choose the one which corresponds to your phone! Click OK. At this steps if you receive an error its okay. Just ignore it.
*. Now select File -> Scan Product.
*. Your phone’s firmware info will appear at the extreme bottom of the Phoenix window.
*. Now go to Flashing -> Firmware Update.
*. A window will open.
*. On that window click Browse button (the one with three dots)
*. A window will open with various products and various regions. Choose the region or country of your choice according to the language pack you want to install.
*. Click Ok.
*. Click Refurbish.
*. Now your actual flashing has started. Don’t touch your phone or press any button until the flashing has finished. Also don’t touch your data cable and your computer system. Remember dont Touch!
*. At the end Phoenix will tell you to remove your phone as the flashing has finished.
*. Now wait for your phone to reboot into latest firmware.
*. The flashing procedure takes 7-10 minutes

4. Flashing dead phones [Which show only white screen on startup] :
Note : You can install any firmware in dead phones whether it is latest and or the old one.
Note (Again) : You can make a deadphone if you want. Just unplug your cable while flashing.

*. The procedure is the same for flashing Dead phones.
*. Start Phoenix. Connect your phone with USB Cable (phone is off at this time).
*. Click File -> Open Product. Select your RM code from the window that appears. Click OK.
*. Click File -> Manage Connections. Select No Connection. Then APPLY and CLOSE.
*. Now straight away click Flashing -> Firmware Update.
*. A window will open. Click on Browse button [the one with 3 dots].
*. A window will open with various products and various regions. Choose the region or country of your choice according to the language pack you want to install.
*. Check the option “Dead Phone USB Flashing”.
*. Click Refurbish.
*. Flashing has started.
*. After some seconds flashing will pause asking you to turn your phone ON.
*. Press POWER button of your phone until backlight comes up. Remember not to remove your cable or even remove it accidently will switching on your phone!!
*. Flashing will proceed.
*. Your phone will automatically start when the flashing finishes. After finish you can safely remove your data cable from Phone. FINISHED!!!

5. If you want to install another update to your phone after some months, first remove the previous version you installed in C:\Program files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\
Delete all the contents of Products folder before installing a new firmware.

Machines are outsmarting us: What can we do?

A gigantic computer created by IBM specifically to excel at answers-and-questions left two champs of the TV game show in its silicon dust after a three-day tournament, a feat that experts call a technological breakthrough.

Watson earned $77,147, versus $24,000 for Ken Jennings and $21,600 for Brad Rutter. Jennings took it in stride writing "I for one welcome our new computer overlords" alongside his correct Final Jeopardy answer.

The next step for the IBM machine and its programmers: taking its mastery of the arcane and applying it to help doctors plow through blizzards of medical information. Watson could also help make Internet searches far more like a conversation than the hit-or-miss things they are now.

Watson's victory leads to the question: What can we measly humans do that amazing machines cannot do or will never do?

The answer, like all of Jeopardy!, comes in the form of a question: Who - not what - dreamed up Watson? While computers can calculate and construct, they cannot decide to create. So far, only humans can.

"The way to think about this is: Can Watson decide to create Watson?" said Pradeep Khosla, dean of engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. "We are far from there. Our ability to create is what allows us to discover and create new knowledge and technology."

Experts in the field say it is more than the spark of creation that separates man from his mechanical spawn. It is the pride creators can take, the empathy we can all have with the winners and losers, and that magical mix of adrenaline, fear and ability that kicks in when our backs are against the wall and we are in survival mode.

What humans have that Watson, IBM's earlier chess champion Deep Blue, and all their electronic predecessors and software successors do not have and will not get is the sort of thing that makes song, romance, smiles, sadness and all that jazz. It's something the experts in computers, robotics and artificial intelligence know very well because they can't figure out how it works in people, much less duplicate it. It's that indescribable essence of humanity.

Nevertheless, Watson, which took 25 IBM scientists four years to create, is more than just a trivia whiz, some experts say.

Richard Doherty, a computer industry expert and research director at the Envisioneering Group in Seaford, N.Y., said he has been studying artificial intelligence for decades. He thinks IBM's advances with Watson are changing the way people think about artificial intelligence and how a computer can be programmed to give conversational answers - not merely lists of sometimes not-germane entries.

"This is the most significant breakthrough of this century," he said. "I know the phones are ringing off the hook with interest in Watson systems. The Internet may trump Watson, but for this century, it's the most significant advance in computing."

And yet Watson's creators say this breakthrough gives them an extra appreciation for the magnificent machines we call people.

"I see human intelligence consuming machine intelligence, not the other way around," David Ferrucci, IBM's lead researcher on Watson, said in an interview Wednesday. "Humans are a different sort of intelligence. Our intelligence is so interconnected. The brain is so incredibly interconnected with itself, so interconnected with all the cells in our body, and has co-evolved with language and society and everything around it."

"Humans are learning machines that live and experience the world and take in an enormous amount of information - what they see, what they taste, what they feel, and they're taking that in from the day they're born until the day they die," he said. "And they're learning from all the input all the time. We've never even created something that attempts to do that."

The ability of a machine to learn is the essence of the field of artificial intelligence. And there have been great advances in the field, but nothing near human thinking.

"I've been in this field for 25 years and no matter what advances we make, it's not like we feel we're getting to the finish line," said Carnegie Mellon University professor Eric Nyberg, who has worked on Watson with its IBM creators since 2007. "There's always more you can do to bring computers to human intelligence. I'm not sure we'll ever really get there."

Bart Massey, a professor of computer science at Portland State University, quipped: "If you want to build something that thinks like a human, we have a great way to do that. It only takes like nine months and it's really fun."

Working on computer evolution "really makes you appreciate the fact that humans are such unique things and they think such unique ways," Massey said.

Nyberg said it is silly to think that Watson will lead to an end or a lessening of humanity. "Watson does just one task: answer questions," he said. And it gets things wrong, such as saying grasshoppers eat kosher, which Nyberg said is why humans won't turn over launch codes to it or its computer cousins.

Take Tuesday's Final Jeopardy, which Watson flubbed and its human competitors handled with ease. The category was US cities, and the clue was: "Its largest airport is named for a World War II hero; its second largest, for a World War II battle."

The correct response was Chicago, but Watson weirdly wrote, "What is Toronto?????"

A human would have considered Toronto and discarded it because it is a Canadian city, not a US one, but that's not the type of comparative knowledge Watson has, Nyberg said.

"A human working with Watson can get a better answer," said James Hendler, a professor of computer and cognitive science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. "Using what humans are good at and what Watson is good at, together we can build systems that solve problems that neither of us can solve alone."

That's why Paul Saffo, a longtime Silicon Valley forecaster, and others, see better search engines as the ultimate benefit from the Jeopardy!-playing machine.

"We are headed toward a world where you are going to have a conversation with a machine," Saffo said. "Within five to 10 years, we'll look back and roll our eyes at the idea that search queries were a string of answers and not conversations."

The beneficiaries, IBM's Ferrucci said, could include technical support centers, hospitals, hedge funds or other businesses that need to make lots of decisions that rely on lots of data.

For example, a medical center might use the software to better diagnose disease. Since a patient's symptoms can generate many possibilities, the advantage of a Watson-type program would be its ability to scan the medical literature faster than a human could and suggest the most likely result. A human, of course, would then have to investigate the computer's finding and make the final diagnosis.

IBM isn't saying how much money it spent building Watson. But Doherty said the company told analysts at a recent meeting that the figure was around $30 million. Doherty believes the number is probably higher, in the "high dozens of millions."

In a few years, Carnegie Mellon University robotic whiz Red Whittaker will be launching a robot to the moon as part of Google challenge. When it lands, the robot will make all sorts of key and crucial real-time decisions - like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin did 42 years ago - but what humans can do that machines can't will already have been done: Create the whole darn thing.

US Air Force raises concerns over LightSquared's LTE network messing with GPS

Following a navigation system's instructions without driving into a ravine is hard enough as it is -- can you even imagine how hard it'd be if you kept losing GPS reception every time you drove within range of an LTE tower? There have been a few anecdotal concerns raised over the last several weeks that LightSquared's proposed LTE network -- which would repurpose L-band spectrum formerly used for satellite -- is too close to the spectrum used by the Global Positioning System, leading to unintentional jamming when the towers overpower the much weaker GPS signals. Things have gotten a little more interesting, though, now that the US Air Force Space Command has officially piped in. General William Shelton has gone on record saying that "a leading GPS receiver manufacturer just ... has concluded that within 3 to 5 miles on the ground and within about 12 miles in the air GPS is jammed by those towers," calling the situation "unbelievable" and saying he's "hopeful the FCC does the right thing."

Presumably, the USAF thinks that "the right thing" would involve pulling LightSquared's license, but for its part, the company says it believes Shelton is referring to a test conducted by Garmin (possibly explaining that recent outage in the Southeastern US?) using simulated interference filters -- not the actual filters that it has spent several million dollars developing and perfecting. Regardless of how effective the filters might be, the idea that the only thing standing between a functional GPS system and a constellation of space-borne paperweights is a private company's privately-developed, privately-operated filtering equipment... but then again, we love LTE. Decisions!

The way you set up your 'personal newspaper' involves a few steps and can seem a little tricky. Follow my step-by-guide below and you'll be reading information about your topic from all over the Internet on one web page. A little investment of your time will pay off.

Introduction - What is a Blog?

Basically, a blog (WeB LOG) is an online diary. There are millions and millions out there! The trick is finding the ones that have information you need and flagging them when they post updates. Advantage: you get the 'inside scoop' before most people in your industry. The good news about blogs is that are probably dozens you will find interesting, the bad news is that means there are dozens of bookmarks you must keep, and since bloggers don't post on a regular schedule you never know when you need to check back to read updates. That's why you need a "blog reader". Technically it's known as an "RSS Reader".

So Why Read Blogs?

There are as many reasons to read blogs as there are people. Each person's reasons are different. Here are a few reasons I read blogs:

1. I get a direct line into the thinking of important people in the field. In technology this could be Jonathan Schwartz (Sun) or Irving Wladawsky-Berger (IBM). In the media it might be Dan Gillmor (San Jose Mercury News). Or perhaps it's people with their finger on the culture like Craig Newmark (craigslist). It's unfiltered and in their own words.

2. Reading from a news aggregator is a much quicker way of reading news. For example, when I log in in the morning and hop over to Bloglines, in one interface I can see what many people are commenting on, along with news outlets like the NY Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe. This beats visiting the websites individually to see if they might have some updated content to read.

3. You get a much better picture of the individuals involved; what they're working on, what their concerns are, sometimes even what their favorite restaurant is. Most bloggers like to read Comments you can leave. This is a great way to build relationships. It's not a replacement for personal interaction, of course, but one that has its place and has a lot more scale to it.

4. Announcements are often made first in blogs.

What is an RSS Reader?

RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'. Just like your morning paper relies on syndicated news from AP, Reuters etc, so your blog reader will rely on the fact that most blogs 'syndicate' their news - they can 'feed' it to your blog reader for you to review.

A news reader or aggregator checks a list of feeds on your behalf and displays any updated articles that it finds. It is common to find web feeds on nearly all blogs as well as many websites such CNN.com. RSS programs are available for various operating systems

How do I find an RSS Reader?

Simple - Google 'RSS Reader'. The most popular are Newsgator, Google Reader, Rocket. I use Bloglines. The rest of this guide is customized for Bloglines, but the same principals will work for all of them.

Step-by-step Guide:

[1] You'll need to open two browser windows.

[2] In the first browser window, link to my blog: http://www.exec-comms.com/blog - I'll use this as an example blog to add to your feeder - hey! it's a great blog!

[3] In the second browser window, go to http://www.bloglines.com and choose Subscribe - it's free.

The next bit is tricky, but stay with me:

[4] In browser where you have Bloglines, Under 'My Feeds' choose 'Add' find where it says 'Blog or feed URL'

[5] Go back to my blog in the other window, look down the right column until you see where it says 'Subscribe me' and underneath you'll see a line that says 'RSS XHTML CSS 508′. Now, RIGHT CLICK on RSS and choose 'Copy Shortcut' and then go to the bloglines window and Paste this into the space where it says 'Blog feed or URL'. If you've done it right, this should go into the window:

http://www.exec-comms.com/blog/?feed=rss2

[6] Hit 'Subscribe' and then again 'Subscribe' on the bottom of the next screen (which allows various options such as folders for multiple blogs - don't worry about it for now.)

[7] Result - You now have a 'feed' to my blog and whenever I post an update it'll show up in Bloglines and you'll see it. OK?

[8] Now you can look at some other blogs you might like to add in Bloglines. This is how you keep your eyes on multiple sources of blog info without having to go fetch it from each website in turn. You just have to find the RSS or XML (same thing) button on each blog. Usually you'll find this button on the left or right column. It might have a graphic that says 'XML' or 'RSS'. You just bookmark Bloglines.com. It's your one stop shop on the internet for dozens of sources of information on your topic. How cool is that!

How to find Blogs that interest you:

[9] Start by searching in Bloglines where it says 'Search all Blogs' at the top of the page. Once the blog shows in Bloglines click on the title to go to the actual blog and find the RSS button. Then repeat steps [4] - [7] above to add it to Bloglines. If you have different topic areas then I suggest you use the option [Create Folders] to organize the blogs under different headings. You don't need to just read blogs on your speaking topic, there's blogs on every topic out there.

[10] Other places to find blogs:

- Google -> More -> Blog Search
- http://www.technorati.com -> Search

[11] The single best place to find quality blogs is to check out the sidebar on any blog that interests you for blogs that author recommends. It's usually listed as a 'Blogroll'. Look down the right side of my blog and you'll see a half-dozen on speechwriting and PR. Cilick and check out any that interest.

[12] Final tip. You can search Google News on your Topic. Guess what? You can grab this as a feed as well! Look to the right side and do the right-click thing where it says 'RSS' and add it as a feed to Bloglines. Hint: If you are searching for all the news on the topic "National Speakers Association" be sure to put it in quotes before you Google, or you'll get separate news on each word, not the phrase. This also works if you search on Blogs using Google.

But again, the number and names of the labels are very important.

Log in to Blogger, in the Posting section, click on Edit Posts.

As soon as you click on Edit posts, you will see all posts written by you (select posts per page as 300 in the right corner of the page).

1. Now to delete any label, click on "Select All". Then in the drop down menu "Labels action", under "Remove label" option you will see the list of all labels, click on the one, you want to remove for ever.

2. To add a label, select all the posts, you want to add the label. Then in the drop down menu "Labels action", under "Apply label" option click on New label.... Finally enter the name of the new label.

3. And in case you want to edit a label, unfortunately there's no direct option given by Blogger.
So do this, firstly in the list of labels column, present at the left side of the page, click on the label you want to edit. Now only those posts are displayed which have this label. Now add a temporary label to these posts. Then delete the label, you want to edit. Now click on the temporary label in the labels list. Now add the new label. Then finally delete the temporary label.

And finally display important labels as a link list in a widget, or display all the labels as a flash widget in your blog.

Convert 1GB Memory Card / Pen Drive to 2GB

1) First of all we have to make sure that its a 1 GB memory card. This only works on 1GB And it supports only in some of the rare cases of memory cards.
2) Now Backup all your data in that because we have to format the drive.
3) After backing up now open the Skimedi Fix 2GB Capacity application. i will upload a link at the end of post.
4) A small window will pop up showing the FIX and Cancel option. And you have to browse the drive where it is located (generally G: or L: drive for USB sticks)
5) After selecting the drive press on FIX and then the updating process will be followed up. It will ask your conformation whether you agree to format or not. click on yes.
6) Later it will ask to replug the device. Just replug the memory stick card and put it back. The size of the memory will be increased from 1Gb to 2Gb. you can see the properties before and after the cracking process.
7) After that you can also check the memory size in phone and also you can test the size by copying all the data to it which is around 2Gb.
8) You can reopen the Skimedi Fix and select the drive again where it shows us the size as 1912mb which is nothing but 2Gb.
9) Some times we get a parameter error while copying the files which have crossed the 1Gb size so this may not be 100% successful.

Notice: This program works only for USB drives with capacity 1 GB (945 MB).
First you must format your USB drive to FAT file system and then use the program.i`m not
